My inspirations from Japan Expo Sud 25
February 25th, 2025
Last weekend I went to the Japan Expo Sud (a French festival for lovers of manga, anime, cosplay, and everything related to Japan). Held in Marseille and in Paris, this festival just celebrated its 15 year anniversary.
I like it for the atmosphere, but also because they always have a little something that I find fascinating. For example, last year, there was a fabulous exhibition on Japanese castles and another one on writing and calligraphy.
This year, I found this Japanese flea market stand—a real chest of wonders! Have a look:
And here is a small video:
This is just a part of it. The tenant of the stand is a Japanese man who remembers stories of each and every object he has! I wish I could spend the whole day listening to his stories!
He also had old photos and photo albums! For some people, all of it is junk, but for people who create something and love stories, it’s an incredible source of inspiration: traces of real people and their lives, frozen moments, and smiles on the faces of those that turned into a memory… To me, the air simmers with magic in places like that :)
Another super cool thing about Japan Expo is that for several years now they also have Korean stands! Apart from K-pop stands and shows, Korean cosmetics and food, they also did a fantastic exhibition on Korean dramas!
Last year, they did it, too. This year, it was the next edition with different dramas ;-)
They really did a great job on it—they collected photos, interesting facts, anecdotes, and even historical explanations for the dramas they presented!
I loooved it! ;-)
